It is Time

Hello friends,

It is early January. Another Gregorian calendar year. Outside my window, the sun shines after rain. Wisps of grey clouds hover low, kissing utility wires. It’s gorgeous outside, and feels still. The air is cold and soft with moisture. Crows call to one another, cars drive by. Tea steams its fragrance at my side.

Today is another day to ponder, work, and plan.

Today is another day to choose.

What will you choose, repeatedly, this year? What do you plan? What might you build?

In a society hell-bent on destruction, I choose to create. I will continue to write stories of community and hope, and meditations about love and magic in times of loss. I will continue to co-create networks for resource sharing, to ease the burdens of those who struggle. I will do my best to create spaces of safety. I will continue to work on strengthening myself for what is here and what may come.

Choosing to create is an act of hope and defiance, against all odds.

Self-improvement? It is a by-product of choosing to center community.

Prosperity? It is a by-product of choosing to create something anew.

A new year? In itself, this is a construct, a creation, and a choice. We each choose to dance with time in our own way, but collectively, we choose together to mark that time.

Together, we say, “This is now.”

Together, we say, “It is time.”

This year, I wish you time enough to create what you want and what you desire.

I wish us all some kindness, too.

Best wishes — Thorn

Charms that read "I will" spill out from a small bag

Hello friends, I’ve been working on the special goodie bags for the high level backers of my Evolutionary Witchcraft Kickstarter so I can deliver the special editions in February. One of the things I’m including are charms stamped with the words “I Will.” That phrase, “I will,” is key to so much of my personal practice. “I will” helped me to commit to studying and writing fiction decades after giving up. “I will,” gets me out for my daily walks, and goads me to do some modest strength...

Hello friends, This past week, I attended an online class from author business coach Becca Syme. She's super insightful, and spoke to us about emotional regulation when world events or business disasters have us spinning. Each morning, she goes through these four phrases, and fills in the blanks: I feel happy that... I feel grateful that... I feel hopeful that... I feel secure that... Becca lives in Minnesota and almost canceled our talk because things in her immigrant-filled neighborhood...

Hello friends, Well… it’s been another eventful week here in the US and globally. In the midst of it all, I’m sure you’ve gone to work, worried about money or family or friends, dropped children off at school, cared for your elders, bought groceries… all of the ordinary things in life. I’m sure some of you have also been to community safety trainings, or attended vigils. Some of you have escaped for an hour or two into books, music, movies, or long walks. And that’s what we do, in...
